I'm not sure if I ever actually introduced myself here, so here goes.
What name do you want to be referred to as?
I usually go by Jarin, which is a shortened and informal form of Jarandhel.
What is your 'kin type?
I usually answer this question "Elf, among other things." That isn't to say that my elven life has affected me more deeply than my other nonhuman lives, but it was the first I remembered in this one. It's also simpler than starting off by reciting a laundry list.
How long have you been awakened?
I first awakened on May 1st, 1999 so I'm coming up on thirteen years at the end of this month.
Describe your awakening experience.
I've already done this multiple times elsewhere, so I hope you'll excuse me if I link to three essays I've written on the subject... one I wrote when I just joined the community, the second I wrote much later looking back, and the third I wrote about a more recent awakening to a life as a dragon:
All of that said, I'm posting here today because I wanted to invite the folks here to participate in the creation of a new community resource: an encyclopedia by, for, and about Otherkin.
I know there have been other wikis in the community, but I think this one is a bit different. For one, it uses the familiar MediaWiki software just like Wikipedia. For another, it's focusing on being an encyclopedia rather than a manual or a FAQ. It's also only able to be edited by registered users, with a strong focus on keeping trolls out so that the information in it accurately represents the experiences of real otherkin. Finally, there is a strong emphasis on citing one's sources and remaining objective in the journalistic sense, which will hopefully keep the encyclopedia as accurate and free of bias as we can make it.
