Introduction

What name do you want to be referred to as?

Syn or if you're the affectionate type.....megoon

What is your 'kin type?

Daoine Sidhe with a Dragon side

How long have you been awakened?

All my life (almost 21 years) I knew I wasn't human but knowing exactly what I was until I'd say about...10 years ago.

Describe your awakening experience.
Complicated.

As a child I was already a bit odd I suppose. Mom is an Otherkin, from a family of Otherkins. Dad comes from Therians (on the Native side, not sure about the white side.) I guess it wasn't as rough as some peoples.

When I was younger, I always got made fun of and laughed at because I called everyone else human. When a teacher asked me what I wanted to be when I grow up, I said a warrior. She asked me why. I told her "Because I'm a dragon fairy." Needless to say, that did not do well from my already strange behavior.

Later on I learned what I was and had a minor flip out at my dad because he had an idea of what I was but not sure. While my mom can't come to terms with what she is (merefolk) my dad has helped me learn more of what I am. Until I chose my own spiritual path.

It makes sense since dragons can mate with humans and those of Faerie as well.

Ah, someone else with a kin family line! What was it like growing up in that kind of environment, where you were encouraged and taught about your other side?

But...faeries are disinclined to accept Christianity. Traditionally, anyway. It must've been a human inclination to go that route for your father, or he was raised that way. It's not to say that Christian faekin don't exist; I just find it contradictory.

Interesting.

I'm curious, how do you react to iron?

Interesting. I get that sometimes too...like it feels like whatever metal I'm touching is sort of writhing under my hands in an uncomfortable way.

My dad always claimed he was an alien, when I was growing up. I always thought it was a joke, but looking back, I wonder.

I know this is going to sound pretentious and I apologize for it now, but a person claiming to be fae's reaction to iron is how I know they're the "real deal". I don't apply this to poseurs, mind, just those who might have misidentified themselves since fae is a kind of catch-all phrase, much like therian, I guess. I don't go to the extremes my friend does, though. If he suspects someone is fae, he'll actually casually touch them with an iron nail and if they react violently, he'll know he was right. It's kind of his...job, I suppose, to do that. He was very keen to observe my reaction to an iron skillet in his kitchen the first night we spoke. It can be eerie to have someone new know you before you even open your mouth.

Sorry, tangent.

Fortunately, he's experienced in what to do should they get a bit unpleasant. He's human, but has an incredible wealth of knowledge about our kind. Hence the eerie bit. He was very cautious around me for awhile, even going so far as to refuse to touch me skin to skin. Has anyone ever done that to you?

I mostly get really uncomfortable and back far, far away. It makes me dizzy and really distorts my senses, as it's meant to. When I've had to touch it for long periods of time, it does burn or "bite" if my skin is unprotected. I can usually sense it before I get close enough for that level of a reaction.

Oh, he eventually allowed me to touch him. The effects are interesting. he referred to it as his brain becoming "fluffy" and now calls me his personal brand of heroine. This is fine since we'll probably be dating soon. He's strong in earth energy so touching him is enjoyable for me, too.

See, I don't mind those things, probably because I grew up taking road trips and flights during the summer. I would always sleep during the longer ones, though. The car is a safe place for me when traveling. If anything, I feel better when speeding along the highway with the windows open. It's like swimming underwater in that it's the closest thing I'll get to flight in this body. I feel a greater entrapment when walking around. I'm always feeling like I should be able to take off, almost to the point that looking up into the sky can move me to tears.

Sometimes. Sometimes it doesn't even take tears for people to know I'm desperately sad. I have, like most fae, I'm sure, a very expressive face. I'm surprised I can even play poker with some skill. Heh.
